Salsa Club Meeting on Wednesday 9/29

All Salseros,

We will meet in Rm. 341 for our second meeting. Be sure to bring a healthy snack, drink, and $10 to order your "I Love Salsa" T-shirt. Meeting time is from 2:10 to 3:30 p.m.

6th Grade Spanish - Test - 9/29 or 10/1

The next test for 6th Grade Spanish is an individual oral test where students will be asked to say their numbers from 0-20. Students have vocabulary lists and can use the website www.phschool.com (web code: jcd-0099) to practice correct pronunciation. Students who are attending the Mosh Field Trip on Wednesday (9/29) will test on Friday (10/1).

Test - 7th Grade Spanish - 9/28/10

Students in 7th Grade Spanish will have a test on Tuesday (September 28th) that covers numbers from 0-100, math symbols, and telling time.

Students should be able...
A) to translate Spanish words to numbers (example: setenta y dos = 72)
B) to give answers to math problems in Spanish (example: dos por siete son ____)
C) to tell what time it is in Spanish (example: 2:05 = Son las dos y cinco.)

To prepare, review p. 7 & 8 in the textbook and your vocabulary notes and flashcards.

8th Grade Spanish - Grammar Presentation

Each student in 8th grade Spanish was assigned a grammar concept to present in class on Wednesday, September 29th, to help the class review material learned last year. Presentations should include an explanation of the concept, examples, as well as some form of assessment to test the other students on their understanding and use of the concept.

7th Grade Spanish - HW for Friday (9/23/10)

Students in 7th Grade Spanish should practice their numbers with flashcards to master the vocabulary. They should also create 10 math problems in Spanish. Put the answers in Spanish on the back side of the paper. All answers must be 100 or less than 100.

8th Grade Spanish - HW Reminder

Students in 8th Grade Spanish should write a "mini-drama" in Spanish in which they include greetings, introductions, asking how someone is, responses, and goodbyes. Due: September 23rd (Thursday)

7th Grade Spanish - Homework

Students in 7th Grade Spanish should review flashcards every night as part of their homework routine. All vocabulary learned is recycled in every lesson and the current chapter's vocabulary acts as a base of vocabulary to be used again and combined with new vocabulary in the next lesson.

Also, students were assigned a practice exercise for numbers to be finished by Wednesday (9/22/10): see worksheets P-4 (Section A - NĂºmeros).

7th Grade Spanish - Flashcards Due 9/20/10

Students in 7th Grade Spanish were introduced to numbers from 0-100 today. Their assignment is to create flashcards for numbers 0-20, for the math signs, and for numbers 30, 40, 50, 60, 70. 80, 90, and 100. There should be 34 flashcards total.

To make the cards, please cut the 3 x 5 cards in half, write the number or sign on one side and the word in Spanish on the other. Then wrap them with a rubber band to keep them separated from your first group of cards on social expressions and bring them to class. ¡Gracias! :)

7th Grade Spanish Test - Thursday 9/16/10

Students in 7th Grade Spanish classes will have a test on Thursday on page 1 of their vocabulary lists (social expressions), the alphabet, and countries and capitals in South America. Part of the test will be oral where I will spell names of the capitals using the Spanish alphabet and students will have to write the correct word and the country for which this city is the capital. Don't forget you can use the textbook website (www.phschool.com) to help you study. Type in code 0099.

8th Grade Spanish - Test on Wednesday (9/15/10)

Students in 8th Grade Spanish should be prepared to test on South American countries and their capitals. The oral section of the test will includespelling using the Spanish alphabet and counting groups of money up to $120.

6th Grade Spanish - Test on September 17th

Students in 6th Grade Spanish will have a test on the social expressions vocabulary on Friday, September 17th. They have taken notes on the vocabulary and will be making flash cards this week to use as a study tool.
A great website to use to fine tune pronunciation is "Spanish Dict.com." You can type in a word you want to know and then click on the speaker to hear how to say it in Spanish. The website also has sets of flashcards to help review all types of vocabulary.
If you forgot or lost your list of words, just click on the files to download a copy.

Salsa Club Starts September 15th!

Calling all Salseros!

If you enjoy Latin music and enjoy dancing, Salsa Club may be exactly what you're looking for! We do all types of Latin dances including salsa, merengue, bachata, cha cha, and we may even try a few folk dances or a little flamenco this year. You don't even have to have a partner to join.

Meetings are generally held every other Wednesday from 2:10 to 3:30 p.m. We do not meet on "early dismissal" Wednesdays. Our first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 15th. The location will be posted soon!

All students must have a signed permission slip in order to attend. Please see the files for a copy. Permits should be turned in to Mrs. Dennis (Rm. 341) or to Ms. Mobley in the front office by Friday, September 10th. Students must also be picked up in front of the school at 3:30 p.m. after each club meeting.

P.S. It's a good idea to bring something healthy to eat and drink for a snack!

6th Grade Spanish - Test on Map

Students in 6th Grade Spanish will be tested on the map of the Spanish-speaking countries on Thursday, September 9th. When given a blank map, they should be able to fill in the names and know the locations of the Spanish countries. Today students were given practice maps. Don't wait til the last minute to study!

7th Grade Spanish

Students in 7th Grade Spanish have been working on the "Para Empezar" chapter in their textbooks which includes learning the alphabet, correct pronunciation in Spanish, capitals and countries where Spanish is spoken, numbers, basic commands, telling time, calendar words, and parts of the body.
It is important that students review each new section daily in addition to the practice done in class. It's a lot of material to pack into the opening chapter, especially for those students who are learning the material for the first time. Quizzes will be coming soon!

8th Grade Spanish Project

Students in 8th Grade Spanish were placed in groups of families and created family trees in order to show their family relationships. Today they were assigned a project to create an avatar of their "family character" in Spanish by using the www.voki.com website. The script should include the following in complete sentences in Spanish:
A. Full Spanish class name
B. Age
C. Birthday
D. At least two adjectives to describe you and your personality.
E. Two things you like or like to do
F. Something you don't like or like to do
G. A final greeting like "Pleased to meet you."
