Update for December 29th



Hola,

I just wanted to say "muchas gracias" for the many cards and gifts left for me for the holidays.  It is always so nice to be remembered at this time of year.  I hope everyone is enjoying their time away from school.  My knee surgery went very well and I am now attending physical therapy, so I'll be ready to go next week.  Hope you have a fun New Year's celebration!

You should be able to say all of the days of the week and the ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) from memory and with correct pronunciation.

You should also be able to read and pronounce correctly the months of the year.

7th Grade Spanish - September 24th

HW:  Review all numbers 0 thru 100.  Create a set of flashcards for the following numbers:
0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100  (Put the # on one side and the Spanish word on the other.  Make sure your spell the number correctly.

Start practicing numbers to prepare for your next oral test.  You will have to say the numbers 0 thru 20 and then count by ten's (0, 10, 20, etc.) in Spanish.  Click on the practice activity on the left in the Blog List to hear the numbers and correct pronunciation.  Repeat after each and see if you sound the same as the speaker.

Test Recycling Policy

Students with a C, D, or F on a test may take a new test on the same material on Thursdays after school.  Re-takes will NOT be given during regular class time.   Students who want to re-take a test should be able to demonstrate that they now know the material and will be able to improve on the previous grade before a new test will be administered.

HW:  Write 10 sentences following the model sentence from Episodio 1.  Vary your sentences by using different days of the week and activities.  Sentences can be negative or positive.

7th Grade Spanish - September 18th

HW:  Create an object or person out of numbers 0 thru 9.  You can make a face, a dancer, teacher, student, football player, car, airplane, boat...whatever you can imagine being created using shapes of numbers.  For example, curly hair can be made from numerous 3's.  You should use each number at least once.  Then label each number in Spanish and give your picture a name.  Check your spelling.  Make sure you write your name, class period and date in the upper right hand corner of your picture.

8th Grade Spanish - el 1 de septiembre

HW:  Cut 3 x 5 cards into thirds.  Use one card to make each flashcard you need for words on the vocab list titled "Crash Course 2 & 3."  If someone asked how do you say one of the words or phrases on the list and you don't not know how to say it in Spanish or are not able to spell it correctly in Spanish, then you should make a flashcard for this word or phrase.  Write the Spanish clearly on one side and the English translation on the other side.  Then hole punch each card and place it on the ring provided in class.  Attach the ring of cards to your 3 ring binder and bring to class.

If you did not need to make any or only a few cards for this vocab page and you know all of the words, then prepare a minimum of 20 blank cards for future use so that you can get homework credit.

7th Grade Spanish - el 1 de septiembre

HW :  Prepare for your test on saying the alphabet and introducing yourself.  Use your notes and/or the link on the left side of the blog to help you practice and fine tune how you say each letter.  When you test, you will NOT be allowed to use your notes, so you should practice by writing down all of the letters, pointing to each, and saying the letter in Spanish.

You will also be asked to have a brief conversation in Spanish with Señora Dennis, so make sure you know your Spanish name and how to say and use the following phrases:  Hello, My name is ...,, What is your name?  And you? Pleased to meet you, Goodbye.  For extra practice, click on the flashcards icon on the left of the blog and then click on "introductions."

¡Bienvenidos a la Clase de Español!

Welcome to Spanish Class!!!!

It was so nice to meet some of my new 7th grade students at orientation on Wednesday and welcome back 8th graders!  As you are preparing to start Spanish class and get together your school supplies, you should add the following items to your back-to-school shopping list:

3 ring binder (1 inch) (any color)
5 tab dividers
lined loose leaf paper (college ruled)
pencils or pens (blue or black ink)
pen (your choice of color to make corrections on your work)

*3 x 5 cards (1 pkg. - white) (keep on hand at home for future use)

We will set up your folder on the first day of class and you will be responsible for bringing that folder to class each time that we meet.  8th graders should keep last year's vocab and grammar notes in your folders.

Both 7th and 8th Grade students will take their district final exam/CGA on Tuesday or Wednesday, May 26th or 27th.

To help review, go to www.phschool.com and type in the web code jcd-0099.  Then select Home Page at the top of the screen.  Scroll down to a specific chapter and click on "Test Preparation."  You will fill in the answers to 20 questions and then will get immediate feedback on the answers.

¡Muchísimas Gracias!

Thanks so very much to everyone who helped make our annual "Salsa de Mayo" celebration so much fun this year.  Students did a great job with decorations, set-up, and clean-up in record time.  Chaperones pulled it all together in a hurry to set up our nacho bar and made sure everyone was well fed and well hydrated.  Special thanks to Maddy's mom for making all the Tres Leches cupcakes and to all who contributed food and drink items. Also, thanks to parents who helped monitor students so all ran smoothly and to Mr. Hays for his support in organization and set-up.

Last but not least, thanks to Neel M's brother Tejas who brought in some fantastic sound equipment and lights to bring out the flavor of those salsa dance classics.  It just wouldn't have been a party without you!

Finally,  I just have to say how proud I was of all my 8th grade students.  You are quite the "salseros" (salsa dancers) and I am really going to miss you all next year!

Review all vocab for Chapter 5A and know how certain words might be combined such as “to open” “a gift.” Be able to use correct forms of “tener,” to use correct possessive pronouns (my, your, his, her, etc.), and to be able to say who is what relation when looking at a family tree.  There will be a listening section describing a celebration and a reading section where someone describes a problem and an expert gives advice on how to solve the problem.

Congratulations Team JLCP!

       Congratulations to twenty of the 7th and 8th Grade Spanish students who proudly represented JLCP at the North Florida World Language Festival on May 7th at Wolfson High School.  We brought home 20 "Superior" ratings and 2 "Excellent" ratings for poetry recitation, improvisational speaking, and project entries.

  Our Amazing International Race Team brought home the 2nd Place Prize and the JLCP team also won 2nd place in the poster contest.  Thanks also to our Brain Brawl Team, our "International Idol" singing contestants, Eva and Lola for making our team shirts, and Marta's mom who helped chaperone the event and made the most delicious Tres Leches cupcakes I have ever tasted!

You are all estudiantes estupendos!!!!!

Make sure all worksheets writing activities are complete, corrected, and ready to turn in before the test.  These include Tarea 2A-1 thru 2A-8 and WAVA Act. 1 thru Act. 4, and Act. 11.  The worksheets are also an excellent way to review.

              Explain the situation of the movie and name your top 3 qualities Carlitos needs to reach his goal.
Body Paragaphs:
               Name each characteristic and provide proof from the movie and explanation of how it proves your point.  Assume I have never seen the movie. Make sure you use transitions to move from one point to the next.
Conclusion:
                   Wrap up your ideas and restate your 3 qualities.

Time to Check the Grade Portal!

As I am wrapping up grading for this quarter, it's very important for students to check the grade portal frequently....especially those with a grade of D or F or have a grade on the borderline and want to insure that they get the higher grade.

Remember, the last good opportunity to retake a test with a D or F is on Thursday (1/8), so take advantage of this chance to improve your grade.  No additional HW.
