Dear Parents of 8th Grade Spanish,
On Friday, May 2nd, all students in 8th Grade Spanish classes are
invited to attend a Latin dance party we call "Salsa de Mayo." This
is my fourth year to organize this annual event to culminate our middle school Spanish
program. We have been working on our
Spanish conversation skills for two years.
Now students will have a chance to put those skills to use and talk with
other students in Spanish with similar ability.
Students are also learning to dance a little salsa and merengue, so they
should have a great time on the dance floor, as well!
All 8th
Grade Spanish students are required to attend the party and will receive 50
points toward their class grade for 4th quarter. In case of transportation problems or other
after-school conflicts, students must be in attendance and participate in
activities from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. to receive credit. Students
who do not attend will be required to do an alternate project to make up the
points. The assignment will be
distributed in class and posted on the school blog.
We are asking everyone
to dress for the occasion and avoid wearing jeans and t-shirts. Boys should
wear slacks or khakis with a collared shirt.
Girls can wear dresses, skirts or dress slacks and blouses. Duval County dress code must still be
followed. NO ONE should wear flip flops
or shoes without a strap on the back.
In order to keep costs
at a minimum, I am asking students to donate certain items to supply our Nacho
Bar including bottled water, soft drinks, chips, salsa, nacho cheese, chili,
and cookies. There will be a sign-up for
these items in class.
I am also in need of
parents to help with set-up, chaperone, serve at the Nacho Bar, and help with
clean-up. If you are interested, please
circle that option below and provide a phone and e-mail.
"Muchas
gracias" for all of your support with this event and throughout the school
year!
