Don't Forget...Salsa Club on Wednesday 10/27

Our next Salsa Club meeting will be in Wednesday, October 27th from 2:10 to 3:30 p.m. in Rm. 341. Bring you dancin'shoes, a snack and drink. The t-shirt orders just arrived, so I will try to distribute these during Team Time on Tuesday so you can wear your shirt on Wednesday.

6th Grade - Test on Thursday - 10-21-10

The next test for 6th Grade Spanish students will be on Thursday. Students should review their flashcards and vocabulary lists for "En la Sala de Clase." I will dictate 10 of the words and students should be able to write the word with correct spelling and tell what it means in English. Vocabulary lists are available in the files.

7th Grade Spanish Calendar Project - Due 10/18/10

Students in 7th Grade Spanish should create a calendar in Spanish for their birthday month on 18 x 12 construction paper. The calendar is due on Monday, October 18th and will count 50 points toward test grades. The items below can be used as a checklist.


_____ select appropriate and interesting graphics to fit the month and fill additional space

_____ include the year 2010

_____ list your birth month in Spanish
_____ spelled correctly
_____ not capitalized

______ list days of week in Spanish
_____ spelled correctly
_____ in correct order (Monday = 1st day of week)
_____ not capitalized

_____ number each of the days in blocks
_____ mark your birthday with graphics or "¡Feliz Cumpleaños, _(your name)___!"
_____ mark and label at least one Hispanic holiday during your month
_____ on the back of your calendar, write a brief 2-4 sentence
explanation (in English) describing what this holiday celebrates

_____ label the day, month, year, week, and today with the appropriate words
(see sample p. 14 in your book)

_____ write/print/type neatly and legibly so every word is easy to read

_____ make sure the overall appearance of the project is neat, well-organized, and pleasing to the eye

6th Grade Spanish - Test on Friday (10/15/10)

Students in 6th Grade Spanish should review for a test on colors and classroom materials (the top half of the "La Clase" list of vocabulary). They should be able to match the Spanish words with the English translation. They should also know how to ask the question: What color is it?/ ¿De qué color es?

7th Grade - Next Test on Tuesday (10/2/10)

Students in 7th Grade Spanish classes should prepare for their next test. This test will be an oral exam where students will be tested individually on listening and comprehension skills using the vocabulary from parts of the body and class objects and commands. For example, if I say "Toca el pie," the student should show understanding by touching his/her foot. Each student will be given 25 commands or things to touch or do. Vocabulary study lists can be found in the files for 7th Grade Beginning Spanish.

Salsa Club T-Shirts For Sale

¡Hola, Salseros!

Don't forget to bring $10.00 to Rm. 341 at the beginning of Team Time or at the Salsa Club Meeting to purchase your "I Love Salsa" t-shirts. The t-shirts are black with white lettering and a red heart.

The last day to put in your order will be on Wednesday, October 13th, our next meeting day. We will meet from 2:10-3:30. Be sure to bring a snack and a drink.

7th Grade Spanish - Flash Cards

Students in 7th Grade Spanish should make flashcards for Friday (10/8/10) on the "La Clase" vocabulary which includes the items used in a classroom such as "pen," "pencil," "paper," etc. and frequent commands such as "open" and "turn in."

Every night, students should review all of the new vocabulary and their "No sé" stack of flashcards (ones they still haven't mastered). The goal is to know the words from English to Spanish.
